Community Workshops

We’re running a series of five community workshops open to LGBTQIA+ folks in the Darling Downs region. These workshops are all about connecting with community, exploring different artistic and creative mediums, and finding ways to express our stories and identities.

These workshops are for folk who:

  • Identify as Queer/LGBTQIA+ (note: this does not include Allies)

  • Reside within the Darling Downs region

  • Are passionate about art and creativity - no matter your level of experience

  • Are over 18 or:

    • Are age 16+ and have permission from a parent/carer

    • Are age 12-15 and have a parent/carer attend with you

Our workshop series includes:

  1. Painting (acrylic on canvas) - Saturday, March 15th, 10am-12pm at the East Creek Community Centre

  2. Exploring Sculpture - Sunday 30th, 1-3pm at the Darling Downs Pottery Club

  3. Fabrics & Textiles - Thursday, April 3rd, 6-8pm at the Toowoomba City Library

  4. Mixed Media - Friday, April 11th 6-8pm at the Toowoomba ART Society

  5. Storytelling through Movement & Dance - Saturday, April 26th, 1-3pm at Dance Central Toowoomba

All workshops will be co-facilitated by Leah and guest artists/crafters from the community.

  • Not at all! We know different mediums spark joy for different people. You can sign up for the ones that interest and excite you!

  • No, not at all. While this workshop series is part of our WIQL Project, it’s open to any and all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and is all about making connections and finding new ways to express ourselves!

  • Yes! We’re glad you asked.

To help us tell the story of the WIQL project at the exhibition, we are hoping to have some collective displays of art made across the 5 workshops.

This is optional, but a great way to participate in the exhibition!

  • We’re keeping these groups intentionally smaller for cozier vibes and more opportunities to interact with co-facilitators and each other.

Each workshop will be capped at 10 people max.

  • This workshop series is free, and all materials/supplies are provided!

  • We understand life happens (and as a committee of queer, ND, and chronically ill folk we also get that capacity changes).

We’ve put a lot of work into making these workshops the best quality we can, so we’d really appreciate if you can let us know if you can no longer make it - that way we can give the space to another person who might be keen!

  • Please reach out to Leah and the Steering Group committee at windowsintoqueerlives@gmail.com and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can!
